Teen Poetry Slam
Tuesday, April 3, 6 p.m.
Grades 6-12. April is National Poetry Month. Get together to showcase your original poems in a friendly competition. Bring at least three poems. Judges will select the three best poems. Winners will receive prizes.

Family Storytime
Wednesdays, March 7–April 18, 10:30 a.m.
For children age 2 and up. Share books, stories, rhymes, music, and movement with your children. 

ABCs of Photo Organizing

Used Book Sale
Saturday, April 21, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Sunday, April 22, noon–3 p.m.
Bargain hunters and book lovers take note: the Friends of the Library will hold a sale of hundreds of adult and children's fiction and nonfiction books in hardcover and paperback. Most books, withdrawn from the Hennepin County Library system or donated by the public, will be priced $1 or less. Funds raised will benefit the library. 

Friday, April 20, noon-5 p.m. Golden Valley Friends members only. Join at the door. Sunday, April 22, noon-3 p.m. Bag Sale.

Tips for Landing a Summer Job
Tuesday, April 24, 6:30 p.m.
Grades 7-12. Get a jump on finding a summer job (or being your own boss) from a teen jobs counselor. Job applications from local businesses and plenty of library resources will be available.

First Pages: Creating Characters

Whether you are writing about kings, detectives or spies, you want to give the reader more than interesting occupations. Learn how to dig deeper into your characters to make them complex, conflicted and compelling, even if they’re vampires. 
This project is funded with money from Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Presented in collaboration with The Loft Literary Center.

Paws to Read
Sunday, April 29, 12:30–2 p.m.
K-grade 5. Certified volunteers will help put young readers at ease so they can cuddle up with a dog or other animal and practice reading aloud. 
Presented in collaboration with North Star Therapy Animals.
