Track Golden Valley Crime Trends With New Interactive Maps

The Police Department is now using a crime-mapping system called RAIDSonline that pinpoints crimes online and via a free iPhone app.

Golden Valley residents have an exciting new way to keep track of the crimes happening around their community.

The city is now using a new online crime-mapping system called RAIDSonline that allows users to set up custom searches, receive crime reports via e-mail and use analytic tools to investigate incidents, the city’s Neighborhood WatchBlog announced Monday.

As a bonus, there’s even a free app for the iPhone.

The map does not display every incident. Instead it concentrates on incidents that the department thinks have the greatest impact on residents—such as theft, burglary, vandalism, and random acts of violence. It does not include traffic offenses, sexual assaults, intelligence reports, non-criminal offenses and those that are confidential under state law. It also only includes actual crimes, not simple calls for service.

Those who access RAIDSonline from the city’s website will see the map center directly on Golden Valley.

Right now, Golden Valley and Coon Rapids are the only Minnesota cities listed on the RAIDSonline service, but the Neighborhood WatchBlog says more cities in the metro will start using it in the coming months.
