Repeat Offender Charged with Assaulting Golden Valley Woman

Police say Shaun Martin Earl Holmes threatened to shoot the victim in the head and "splatter her brains all over the wall."

A man is facing felony charges after police say he assaulted a Golden Valley woman, threatening to “splatter her brains all over the wall.”

Shaun Martin Earl Holmes, 34, who has no permanent address, is charged with felony domestic assault, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 bond.

According to the criminal complaint, signed by Golden Valley Police Detective Kristin Hoefling, the victim came to the Golden Valley police station on Oct. 3 to report Holmes’ behavior.

The victim told officers that Holmes, her ex-boyfriend, had assaulted her. She said Holmes threatened to shoot her in the head and “splatter her brains all over the wall,” and held up a clenched fist as though he was going to strike her.

The victim said she was frightened because Holmes has assaulted her in the past.

Police tracked down Holmes shortly afterward. When they arrived, he put his hands in the air and began to shout that he didn’t do anything, according to the complaint.

Holmes’ criminal record includes convictions for third-degree assault in 1998, harassment in 2003, violating a protection order in 2006 and 2010 and making terroristic threats in 2006 and 2008. The subject of the 2010 protection order was the victim in the Oct. 3 incident, the complaint says.

Holmes has been released from custody on a $20,000 bond. An omnibus hearing in his case is scheduled Nov. 13 in Hennepin County District Court.
