Officers determined that the car was connected to an early morning carjacking in the city of New Hope where a carjacking suspect had been shot at by an off-duty police officer.

The shooting victim was arrested in connection with the New Hope case and taken by EMS to HCMC for treatment of a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

The case is being investigated by the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 6 a.m. on Dec. 14, New Hope police responded to a report of a shooting at a Holiday Gas Station at the intersection of 42nd Avenue East and Nevada Avenue, according to a statement released by the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the statement:

Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating and has determined that an adult male suspect encountered an off-duty police officer from Crystal outside the Holiday store. There is evidence that a gun was fired. The Sheriff’s Office is investigating this as an officer-involved shooting. The suspect drove off in the officer’s personal vehicle.

The Crystal police officer was treated for minor injuries. He is currently on paid administrative leave which is standard procedure in these types of incidents.

Minneapolis Police arrested the suspect and recovered the stolen vehicle in south Minneapolis. The suspect had what appears to be a gunshot wound and was transported to HCMC with a non-life-threatening injury.

The Sheriff’s Office is also investigating the suspect for possible involvement in two incidents that took place prior to the Holiday incident. In the early morning hours, a man was assaulted at 49th and Flag, New Hope. Then there was an assault of a SuperAmerica store worker at 36th and Winnetka, Crystal. (Again, these two assaults took place prior to the shooting in Crystal.)
