Police Blotter: Officers Shoot Raccoons Twice in One Week

This week's police blotter also includes four traffic accidents and several traffic citations.

In a two-day timespan last week, two Golden Valley police officers each fired a weapon. Police say both times an officer had to shoot a raccoon.

The first incident happened on Oct. 17 at 5:37 p.m. at 1945 Kyle Place. The second took place on Oct. 18 at 4:46 p.m. near 1308 Hillsboro Ave. N. Police said the raccoon had been hit by a car.

"We have an occasional call for a sick and/or injured animal that officers have to deal with," Joanne Paul, crime analyst with the said in an email. "I recently saw an article that another city was having issues with raccoons with distemper, but I can’t say that we’ve seen that problem this year."
