Police Blotter: Golden Valley Woman Stabs Boyfriend

April Collette Cohen has been charged with second-degree assault.

A 49-year-old woman has been charged with stabbing her boyfriend in Golden Valley on Oct. 11.

According to the criminal complaint, police say April Collette Cohen called 911 just before 7 a.m. and told dispatchers that she had just stabbed her boyfriend at their apartment on Golden Valley Road.

According to the complaint, police and paramedics responded to 6535 Golden Valley Road, where they found Cohen leaving and her boyfriend inside holding a towel to his leg.

Police say the boyfriend told them he and Cohen were drinking alcohol and smoking crack cocaine, and as they became more intoxicated, they began arguing. Police say Cohen picked up a butcher knife, the two physically struggled, and Cohen stabbed her boyfriend in the leg.

Police say they found the knife in the sink and say Cohen confirmed what her boyfriend had told police.

Cohen was released on bond from the Hennepin County Jail, faces second-degree assault charges and is scheduled for a Nov. 9 hearing.  She is not currenty facing any drug-related charges.
