A Wisconsin man could face jail time and pay a fine for driving while impaired in Golden Valley and refusing to submit to a chemical test.

According to court documents, Golden Valley police responded to the Taco Bell at 6620 Wayzata Blvd at 6:29 p.m. for a report of a drunk male who was eating in the restaurant. Witnesses say a 31-year-old man got out of his blue Chevrolet Aveo and stumbled into the restaurant. Officers later saw the man leave the Taco Bell and make his way toward his the car, before he entered his vehicle, they said he "swayed significantly" and had to use the car to keep his balance. Police followed the car out of the parking lot and noticed the man making a lane change without signaling as well as straddling the lane marker as he waited for a green light. That's when officers decided to stop the vehicle at the intersection of Market St. and Louisiana Ave. Police say they noticed the man's eyes were bloodshot and watery and they could smell "a strong odor consistent with that of a consumed alcoholic beverage" coming from inside the vehicle. The man performed field sobriety tests but failed to complete them successfully. Police say his preliminary breath test revealed an alcohol concentration of .269. The officers then placed him under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol and took him to the Golden Valley Police Department. Police say the man refused to submit blood or urine for testing and claimed that he didn't understand the charges against him. When asked if he wanted to speak to an attorney, police say he was "trying to delay the process." The court documents indicate the man stated he "had all night and would just sit there and not try to contact an attorney and would just look through the telephone book."

A review of state records found the man had his driver's license revoked in 2001 for having an alcohol concentration of .10.

A Minneapolis man could be facing some time behind bars after police say he beat up his ex-girlfriend in her Golden Valley apartment.

Police responded to the 1400 block of Douglas Drive at 9:20 p.m. for a report of a physical assault. When officers arrived at the residence, they noticed drops of blood on the kitchen floor and on the wall between the bedroom and living room. Police say the victim and the suspect have a daughter together. According to court documents, the victim allowed the suspect to visit with their daughter when he punched her. The report states the victim had a cut on her upper lip that required stitches to close the cut, as well as a swollen right eye.

Police say the fight started when the man tried calling one of his girlfriends with the victim's house phone. The woman asked him to block her number because she had received harassing phone calls from people the man had called from her place in the past. Ultimately, she asked him to leave her apartment, but the man responded by hitting the woman in the face "three or four times." When the woman tried to run toward the front door to escape and call 911, the man grabbed her by the front of her bathrobe and threw her against the wall. A third party witness confirmed these events. The woman eventually escaped and went to a neighbor's apartment to call 911. The witness told officers the man hit the woman several times with both hands across her face. Some of the hits were open-handed, while others were with closed fists.

A review of the man's criminal history showed that he was previously convicted of assault/batter/bodily harm on Apr. 15, 2008 in Illinois. If convicted of this crime, court documents say the man could face a year in jail, a $3,000 fine or both.
