Updated: Officer Involved in I-394 Incident Officially Identified

Police chief says Rob Zarrett has 16 letters of commendation in his file.

Patrol Officer Rob Zarrett normally works a "street shift," according to the chief. He joined the department on May 11, 1998.

On Thursday, Zarrett attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Katherine Marie Gordon, 58, of Altadena, CA, according to an earlier statement from Carlson. Zarrett initially tried to get Gordon to stop near 169. Gordon pulled over about a mile away, near the Hopkins Crossroads.

"The lone occupant of the vehicle, an adult female, was in possession of a handgun and was subsequently fatally shot by the officer," Carlson's statement said. "The officer did not sustain any injuries."

The , including whether or not Gordon pointed her gun at Zarrett or fired it.

Zarrett is on administrative leave while the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office investigates the incident.

Zarrett "has 16 letters of commendation in his file," Carlson said. "There are no open internal investigations/complaints against Officer Zarrett."

He was the subject of a lawsuit stemming from a 2005 incident in which he fired a stun gun at a woman as she sat in the passenger seat of a vehicle. The woman later sued the Golden Valley Police Department and the case was settled for $250,000. The department did not admit wrongdoing in the case.
