Hennepin County Stats Show Crime Decrease So Far in 2013

Newly-released statistics provide an estimate of crime in the county mid-year for 2013. When comparing January through June 2012 to the first six months in 2013, statistics show that crime has decreased countywide.

For property crime, there’s a 7 percent reduction and for violent crime there’s an 8 percent reduction. 2012 had one of the lowest levels of violent crime countywide in more than two decades and 2013 is trending even lower for both violent crime and property crime.

Since 2006, there’s been a 38 percent reduction in violent crime across Hennepin County. Violent crime is defined as: murder and manslaughter--non negligent, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. The definition is from the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program.
