VIDEO: Golden Valley's 2011 Night to Unite

Neighbors meet neighbors with the goal of future crime prevention.

Tuesday was a warm night in Golden Valley.

Yes, it was about 90 degrees and humid, but the warmth also came from neighbor socializing with neighbor. It was the annual , when residents gather for potlucks and ice cream socials.

"It's the one night a year when you get to see all your neighbors," said Laura Kehrberg. "It's always hot, but it's always worth it."

"But I also think it's good to have all generations together," said Annie Cleveland. "I mean you look and there's people who have been in this neighborhood for 30, 35 years. There's another family behind us who just moved here from Santa Fe. So it's really nice to bring people together."

Golden Valley Police Sgt. Sean Rydel said there are advantages to knowing your neighbors. They can offer help when you need it and watch your home if you go on vacation.
