Golden Valley Man Facing More Felony Drug Charges

Police say that when they tracked down Gary Jerrod Phillips to arrest him on an outstanding drug warrant, they found crack cocaine beside him.

A Golden Valley man already facing felony drug charges in Hennepin County has been charged again with cocaine possession.

Gary Jerrod Phillips, 39, is charged with fifth-degree possession of cocaine, a felony with a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, signed by Hennepin County Deputy Sheriff Patrick Chelmo, police were looking for Phillips on July 18 to arrest him on an outstanding warrant. They spotted him in Robbinsdale and arrested him.

As officers were removing Phillips from the car, they saw crack cocaine on the back seat beneath where he had been sitting, the complaint charges. The driver of the car, Gina Marie Shaw, 41, of Minneapolis, was found to have more crack cocaine hidden in her bra, and she and Philips were both arrested.

The crack found near Phillips weighed .07 grams, and the crack that police found on Shaw weighed .16 grams.

Phillips remains in the Hennepin County Jail on a $300,000 bond, part of which stems from other pending felony drug charges against him. An omnibus hearing in his case is scheduled Aug. 20 in Hennepin County District Court.

Shaw is free on a $3,000 bond.
