Golden Valley Man Charged with Fleeing Police

Police say Emanuel Paul Ard led them on a high-speed chase through a Minneapolis residential neighborhood.

A Golden Valley man has been charged with leading police on a high-speed chase through a Minneapolis residential neighborhood.

Emanuel Paul Ard, 35, is charged with fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, a felony with a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, signed by Minneapolis Police Sgt. Bradley Simonson, a Minneapolis officer was on patrol near West Broadway and Lyndale Avenue North on Oct. 10 when he spotted a speeding car.

The officer turned on his squad car’s emergency lights and began to pursue the car, but the driver, later identified as Ard, refused to stop.

After a brief pursuit, Ard began to pull over to a curb between Emerson and Fremont, but suddenly veered back onto the road and accelerated, according to the complaint. During the chase, Ard reached speeds of 45 mph in a 30 mph residential neighborhood, the complaint charges.

The original officer and additional officers continue pursuing Ard for several blocks along West Broadway before he finally turned onto Logan Avenue North, continued for another five blocks, turned onto 26th Avenue North and stopped in front of a home and got out of his vehicle.

Ard was arrested and taken into custody.

Ard has an extensive criminal history dating back to 1995, including convictions for car theft, domestic abuse, receiving stolen goods, theft and fleeing police.

Ard has been released from custody on a $20,000 bond. He is scheduled to make a first appearance on the charge Nov. 5 in Hennepin County District Court.
