Golden Valley Firefighters Help Contain House Fire

A Plymouth family was able to escape unharmed after a fire started this afternoon in their kitchen at their home at 240 Zachary Lane North.

The Golden Valley Fire Department and firefighters from Wayzata and Minnetonka aided Plymouth Police and Fire.

Sgt. Chris Kuklok with Plymouth Police said someone reported the fire at 12:49 p.m. When Plymouth Police and Fire arrived they found flames in the kitchen and smoke throughout the home.

Fire crews worked for the next several hours containing the fire to the kitchen and attic area of the home. But it is not inhabitable for the family at this time. The Red Cross will be helping the family for the time being.

"The police report said that the fire originated in the kitchen and it was a cooking fire," Kuklok said. "Police were on the scene until about 3:30 p.m."

Information on the direct cause, damage and reach of the fire is still preliminary. Kuklok said nothing has been officially wrapped up on the incident.

He said there was extensive smoke damage in the home, but was not sure how much fire consumed the structure and if it was a total loss or not.
