Golden Valley Fire Department Seeking New Recruits

Golden Valley Fire Department is offering three opportunities to learn about becoming a firefighter.

The Golden Valley Fire Department is looking to add a few new faces. Area residents will have three opportunities next month to learn more about what it takes to be a Golden Valley firefighter.

Residents with questions about working with the department can attend the annual Public Safety Open House June 15 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and tour the three city fire stations.

Those who are eligible—at least 18 years old, have a valid driver’s license, live or work within six minutes of a station, and have a high school diploma or equivalent—can get an up-close look at the job at the Firefighter Recruitment Expo June 23 at 7 p.m.

“You’ll get a chance to try on fire gear, put on a self-contained breathing apparatus, watch a live burn, take part in a auto extrication demo, and potentially climb our ladder trucks,” Stephen Baker, fire education specialist, said in a news release. “Instead of telling you what it’s about, we’ll show you.”

Golden Valley firefighters will be on hand at the expo to answer additional questions and share their experiences.
