Golden Valley Community Service Officer Receives Certificate of Excellence

Officer Scott Peterson was off-duty when he called 911 to report suspicious activity, which led to the prevention of possible theft from a number of parked cars.

On Nov. 6, Community Service Officer Scott Peterson noticed that a man in the Golden Valley Public Library parking lot was acting unusual. According to Police Chief Stacy Carlson, the man was lurking near an elderly woman when red flags went up for Peterson.

Though Peterson was off-duty, he continued to observe the man, who eventually began tampering with parked cars in the library and Mcdonald’s parking lots. Peterson called 911 and confronted the man, who later admitted that he had intentions of stealing items from the parked cars.

“We’ve certainly had an issue this year with theft from auto,” Peterson said at a Dec. 18 City Council meeting. “On his own time, [Peterson was] looking out for residents and their safety.”

For those reasons, Carlson presented Peterson with a Certificate of Excellence at the Tuesday meeting.

“We’re very fortunate to have him,” Carlson said of Peterson.
