Golden Valley Boy, 6, Drowns at Wirth Lake Beach

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office said a 6-year-old boy was found near the beach around 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

A 6-year-old Golden Valley boy, apparently part of a birthday celebration at , drowned Saturday afternoon. 

According to the Hennpin County Sheriff's Office, the boy was discovered around 5:30 p.m. by a bystander who was walking in the lake near the beach and found the child in about four feet of water.  

Lifeguards were on duty and administered CPR. Golden Valley Police later arrived to Theodore Wirth Park and took command of the scene, continuing CPR on the victim.

County spokesperson Lisa Kiava told media outlets the boy was later pronounced dead at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. 

The boy is the sixth person this summer to drown in Hennepin County, she added.

Multiple news outlets reported the boy was there for a party, but it was not clear how he was separated from family members.
