Update: Boy Pulled From Wirth Lake Identified, Remains in Hospital

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office has identified the boy as Keylen Rashan Thorton.

The 7-year-old boy who was rescued Aug. 2 from Wirth Lake has been identified as Keylen Rashan Thorton. Officials report he is receiving treatment at an area hospital. 

He was later transferred to Children’s Hospital and Clinics in Minneapolis, where his condition was not available Saturday, reports the Star Tribune.

At approximately 2 p.m. today, Friday, Aug. 2, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a 7-year-old boy missing in Wirth Lake at Theodore Wirth Park, Minneapolis.   

Earlier, the child’s grandmother had alerted lifeguards that the boy was missing. The lifeguards cleared the lake and began a search.  The boy was located in a swimming area, in approximately four to six feet of water, near a walkway.
Lifeguards began CPR on the child who was unconscious. He was transported to North Memorial Hospital at that time.     

The city says that three lifeguards were on duty at the time of the incident and that two were actively watching the beach, reports Kare 11.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating. Golden Valley Police, Golden Valley Fire Department, Minneapolis Park Police, Minneapolis Police and the Sheriff’s Office responded.
