Hello Golden Valley!
I’m excited to announce that I'm the new Local Editor for Golden Valley Patch. Golden Valley is a community that has been a part of my past and is now a part of my present and will be part of my future.
I'm no stranger to Patch. I have been the Plymouth MN Patch editor since July 2011. I'm glad to be able to be covering news and provide information about Golden Valley now too. Two great communities to get to know.
Let me tell you a little about myself and I hope you'll do the same. I'm returning from maternity leave to come back to work for Patch. My husband and I welcomed our son Henry on Jan. 29, 2013. Every day has been a new adventure as new parents. I hope to share some of my adventures in parenting on Patch in future posts.
I grew up in the city of Crystal, right next door, and attended schools in the Robbinsdale School District. Growing up in the area, my family, friends and I have shopped, golfed, ate at restaurants and worked in Golden Valley. I have friends who’ve lived in the city over the years and know people who live there still. I continually hear great things about the community and am eager to get to know it even more.
I went to Forest Elementary, Hosterman Middle School and graduated with honors from Robbinsdale Cooper High School in 2000. I started out as a reporter at Cooper for the The Quill my senior year and was managing editor for the Talons yearbook. I may have even written about people you know.
If I didn't back then, I may have written about people you know when I worked for Sun Newspapers from 2008-2010. While there I covered several cities and school districts in the metro including Burnsville, Champlin, Brooklyn Park, the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District and the Anoka-Hennepin School District. I received an award for a photo page I did on school closings in 2010 from the Minnesota Newspaper Association.
I've always enjoyed writing and meeting new people. I was news editor for The Gustavian Weekly at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. where I graduated with a Bachelor's of Art degree in Communication Studies and a minor in English Literature. During the first semester of my senior year in college I studied abroad in London, England and had an internship with the University of Westminster’s Students’ Union magazine.
After graduating college in 2004, I went onto be the roving reporter for the daily newspaper, The Dickinson Press, in the western Badlands of North Dakota. While there I covered a wide variety of news from human interest to education to helicopter crashes. I also hiked in Theodore Roosevelt National Park, learned about agriculture, wrote about the farming industry, got to know many businesses and even went on a hot air balloon ride. I received several accolades and Associated Press awards for my work there.
I look forward to getting to know more about the the Golden Valley community through my work with Golden Valley Patch. I’m not just here to provide information, but start a conversation with you! Yes, you are the reason I'm here with Patch. I want to get to know what you care about locally, what concerns you about where you live and want to share what you know about your community.
Golden Valley Patch is not just a forum for me to talk at you. I want to talk with you. I want to hear from you about what's going on.
