Wilmine Farrell (Haarstick), of Brooklyn Park, formerly of Golden Valley

Sept. 6, 1918 - Feb. 3, 2013 

Wilmine Lucille Haarstick Farrell of St Therese Oxbow Lake, Brooklyn Park, formerly of Golden Valley, passed away peacefully February 3, 2013 after 94 years of adventure as one of God's most glorious creations.

She was born September 6, 1918 in Fergus Falls, MN to Carl F Haarstick and Helena Kumm Haarstick. After graduation from Fergus Falls High School she attended Moorhead State Teachers College, where she majored in English and Speech. Upon graduation she taught in a variety of schools in South Dakota, Nebraska and Gary, Indiana.

She married Frank L Farrell on May 4, 1946. They eventually settled in Mapleton, IA where they started their family: Patrick Francis and Steven John. In 1958 the family moved to Minneapolis and eventually to Robbinsdale and Golden Valley.

She taught English and Speech at Orono HS for two years and then became a regular substitute for the Robbinsdale Schools. She was a faithful member of St Margaret Mary Catholic Church. She was involved in many organizations and clubs: Legion of Mary, Mended Hearts, Eucharistic Minister for the Homebound as well as for patients at North Memorial Medical Center. She was an avid bridge player and at one time was involved in three bridge groups simultaneously. Wilmine enjoyed cooking and entertaining.

She saw beauty in all things. She also loved life and all the adventure that went with it. She traveled both domestically as well as internationally. She explored most major locations in Europe, the Holy Land, Egypt, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Vietnam, China, Japan and across Siberia on the Trans Siberian Express. She made friends wherever she went and brought back many beautiful memories of each trip.

Wilmine is survived by her sister, Ruth Larsen of Park Rapids, MN; sister-in-law, Margaret Farrell of Hot Springs, SD; son, Steven (Joan) of Brooklyn Park; grandchildren, Shannon, Bryan, Katie, Elisabeth and David; great grandchildren Jack, Elizabeth and Dominic; and her many nieces and nephews and friends.

Interment Gethsemane Cemetery.
