Evelyn L. Anderson (nee Sievert) of New Hope, formerly of Golden Valley

Oct. 5, 1919 - Jan. 9, 2013

On Oct. 5, 1919, Evelyn was born to Frank and Mathilda Sievert in Dazy, North Dakota. The Sievert family moved numerous times throughout the Midwest. During the depression years, the family resided in Dazy and Valley City, North Dakota, and then in Heron Lake and Okabena, Minnesota while Evelyn’s father made ends meet as a farmer, carpenter, and as a machinist. In 1928, the Sieverts moved to Minneapolis, and, to help the family’s finances, Evelyn took a job at the De Soto poultry processing plant on Nicolette Island.

In 1938, while living with her sister, Lydia, Evelyn met the love of her life, Earl Erhard Anderson.  They dated for twelve months, but when Earl found work with General Mills, they decided to marry. On January 27, 1940, Earl and Evelyn were married at Christ Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Their first child, Gary Donald, was born Dec. 29, 1940, and their second child, Judith Ellyn, was born Sept. 6, 1942. From April of 1943 until January of 1946, Earl served in the Navy, and the Anderson family continued to live in a fourplex in Minneapolis.

After his discharge, Earl found work with the Minneapolis Star Journal.   Bruce Earl, was born Oct. 25, 1946, and on Jan. 14, 1952, another son, Stephan Neal, was born. Eventually, the family moved to their home at 4916 6th St. in Northeast Minneapolis. Earl and Evelyn’s last child, Mark Evan, was born on March 29, 1957.

The family moved once again to the home they built at 2250 Valders Ave. in Golden Valley on land owned by Earl’s father. Their summer vacations were spent at the cabin they built near Atlas, Wisconsin. Earl and Evelyn continued to live in their home in Golden Valley until February of 2008 when the effects of Alzheimer’s forced Evelyn to move to St. Therese’s Nursing Home in New Hope.  Several months later, Earl joined her at St. Therese’s. He passed away on September 30, 2009.

Evelyn was blessed with and enjoyed her ever growing family. She also enjoyed many hobbies, including: gardening, painting, photography, singing in the choirs of St. Mathew’s Lutheran Church and Golden Valley Lutheran Church, and working at the Lutheran Church Economy Center in North Minneapolis. Her love and faith in God were constant sources of strength throughout her life.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her mother and father, Mathlida and Frank, brothers, Emil, Walter, and Vernon, sisters, Lydia (Zemke) and Mildred (Gafkjen), children, Bruce Anderson and Judith Anderson, and grandchild, Todd Norling. She is survived by sons, Gary (Sharon), Stephan (Janice), and Mark (Karen), thirty grandchildren, fifty-four great-grandchildren, and fourteen great-great-grandchildren.

The family has requested that memorials be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
