Allianz Life Contributes $125,000 in Response to Local Senior Transportation Needs

Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America (Allianz Life) awarded Golden Valley-based PRISM (People Responding in Social Ministry) a $125,000 grant to help meet growing needs for local senior transportation.

Many seniors are left stranded as funding for transportation services is cut, yet mobility is a primary factor that determines whether a senior can continue to live independently in their home. PRISM’s PRISM Express service is one of the last in the metro area to provide door-to-door rides for seniors in the Twin Cities. From medical/dental appointments to haircuts and shopping excursions, PRISM’s dial-a-ride program gives independence to the local senior community. PRISM provided more than 58,000 seniors rides to wherever they wanted or needed to go in 2012, and 2013 is shaping up to be a busy year, too. 

Allianz Life’s donation has allowed PRISM to acquire a new van and transportation routing software for the PRISM Express transportation service, enabling it to increase its efficiency and provide an additional 6,850 rides to homebound seniors on an annual basis.
