Minneapolis Park Board Hosts Proposed Bottineau Transitway Community Meetings

Information provided by city of Golden Valley.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board and Hennepin County will host two community meetings in February and March about the proposed D1 Alignment of the Bottineau Transitway, which would run on existing Burlington Northern Sante Fe (BNSF) Railroad property adjacent to Theodore Wirth Regional Park.

Both meetings are part of the Theodore Wirth Regional Park Forum, a multi-day collaborative visioning process that will help the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, Hennepin County, and the community best understand the issues and opportunities surrounding introduction of the proposed Bottineau Transitway to the landscape adjacent to the park.

The Bottineau Transitway is a proposed light rail transit project that would extend approximately 13 miles from downtown Minneapolis to Brooklyn Park. The project is led by Hennepin County Regional Rail Authority in coordination with the Metropolitan Council.

In December 2012, the Golden Valley City Council and officials from Hennepin County voted in favor of endorsing the Bottineau Transitway route through Golden Valley, which is partially adjacent to the Mary Hills Nature Area and Theodore Wirth Park. Minneapolis, Robbinsdale, Crystal, and Brooklyn Park have also voted in support.
