New Weather Records Set

The warm weekend crushed weather records set more than one hundred years ago.

Monday’s temperatures may be a bit cooler than the weekend, but according to the extended forecast Minnesotans are in for another blast of spring.

The Twin Cities welcomed record-breaking highs on both Saturday and Sunday.  Saturday a 134-year-old record was shattered and Sunday a 110-year-old record was squashed with a temperature of 66 degrees. The previous record was set on 1902, with a high of 61 degrees.

The calendar might say March, but these temperatures are more like May. Parks were full and bike paths were wet but busy over the weekend as people enjoyed the warm weather.

According to the National Weather Service, these temperatures will stick around. Monday is the coolest day with temperatures in the mid 50s, but Wednesday temperatures could hit 70 and hover around that mark all week. In fact, each day this week, other than Monday, has a shot at reaching record highs.

The concern now turns to flooding. With snow melting rapidly and rain predicted for Monday and Saturday, water levels could pose a bit of a problem for streams and rivers in eastern Minnesota.
