Wanted: Fish Tales and Pictures from Golden Valley
Did you take part in the fishing opener this weekend? We want to hear about your trip and see your pictures.
Barry Cavanagh packed up his SUV with all the right fishing gear for the weekend's opener. This year he is taking his six-year-old son, Kevin, up to Mille Lacs Lake for the first time.
"I'm so excited," Kevin Cavanagh said. "My dad bought me my own fishing pole and we're going up to our cabin, just the two of us."
Cavanagh's father took him on his first fishing trip when he was a boy, and is excited to carry on the tradition with his son.

"A boy's first fishing opener is like a rite of passage," Cavanagh said as he crunched a few other items into his vehicle outside his Golden Valley home. "Now I just hope he catches a few fish."
The annual fishing opener is almost a Minnesota holiday, with thousands of anglers participating. According to the MN DNR, Minnesota sells the most fishing licenses (per capita) in the U.S.
