Students, Staff Evacuated from SEA After Multiple Illnesses Reported

Students were bused to Robbinsdale Spanish Immersion School for the remainder of the day.

At about noon on Monday, Feb. 25, 10 students and a few staff members from the School of Engineering and Arts in Golden Valley reported feeling ill, according to Tia Clasen, spokesperson for District 281.

Robbinsdale Area Schools officials made the immediate decision to test the air quality of the building.

While testing was being conducted, at about 2 p.m., the district decided to evacuate the building, busing student and staff to nearby Robbinsdale Spanish Immersion School to carry out the remainder of class.

After the district's tests for carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide came back normal, as a precautionary step, officials called the Golden Valley Fire Department and hazardous materials team.

“Their results came back clean as well,” Clasen told Patch. “At this point, we don’t know what caused the illnesses.”

The SEA Adventure Club students met at Robbinsdale Spanish Immersion School today and tonight's girl scout meeting at SEA is cancelled.

Clasen confirmed that SEA will be open tomorrow and school will resume.

Linda, we added the full title "School of Engineering and Arts" in the first sentence. Hope that clears up any confusion! SEA is a new magnet school in Golden Valley and is located in the former Olson Elementary School building.

My daughter was one of the students who became ill at sea yesterday. The symptoms were fuzzy thinking , headache, and dizziness. All symptoms of carbon dioxide, and carbon monoxide poisoning .Although no trace of these were found I am thankful to Sea princible Mrs. Hiel and district 281 for their quick action in this case. Would the Golden Valley Rotary Club have any interest in hearing a Dietitian speak on Overweight andRead More Nutrition? I am not slamming overweight at all. It's a presentation that can be filled with informative tips, suggestions, and be a question and answer session. I've given one successfully already. Let me know. Sec of State Ritchie has disgraced his office by his blatantly political biases in favor of theRead More Democrat Party. He makes sure all ballot measures are worded to promote the Democrat Party and his far-left agenda. Verdict on Mr. Ritchie? Another Democrat Party hack who is an embarrasssment to the state.
