Photos: June 21 Storm Damage in Golden Valley

The overnight storm, strong wind gusts and heavy rain hit some people hard while others only had to contend with tidying up their yards.

Laura Lazowski woke up at 5 a.m. Friday morning June 21 and looked out her front window, but could only saw tree branches in disarray.

"We're lucky there wasn't any real damage this time," Lazowski said. "We had a tree coming through our roof before, but not this time."

Lazowski and Yury Millman live on Western Avenue near Brookview Park in Golden Valley. The large tree in their front yard had a large chunk break off in the storm last night without any damage to their home or the car parked under the tree branching over the driveway. (Lazowski is also a blogger on Golden Valley Patch.)

They were definitely not alone in trees down in their yard. Driving around Golden Valley Friday morning it was evident the overnight storm, strong wind gusts and heavy rain hit some people hard while others only had to contend with tidying up their yards. It was a messy first day of summer for many June 21.

Golf courses in the city were hustling to get trees and debris cleaned up as well. Photos with this post show some large trees down in two popular golf courses in the city.

Many stoplights were out around Golden Valley including the intersection of Plymouth Avenue and 13th Avenue coming off Highway 169 as well as the intersection of Golden Valley Road and Winnetka Avenue next to City Hall.
