Market in the Valley Opens For The Season

The farmers market in Golden Valley opens this Sunday.

For the second year, Golden Valley will host a weekly farmers market. kicks off this Sunday near city hall. This year the market will feature about 30 different venders.

Last year, long-time Golden Valley Resident Kristine Frey and Leslie Hendricks, a resident of New Hope, started the market. The two friends wanted to create a community-center market where residents could come together to get local goods.

“We wanted to open a market that people could walk or bike to,” Hendricks said. “We think Market in the Valley creates a sense of community and we’re looking forward to another great year."

“Last year we were very busy,” Hendricks said. “The market exceeded our expectations and we’re hoping for the same outcome this season.”

Free spaces are also available for non-profits to set up and for youth entrepreneurs.

“We encourage young people to set up at the market and learn a little about business,” Hendricks said. “I think it’s one of the things that makes our market a little different and we hope kids take advantage of the opportunity.”

Market in the Valley opens Sunday, June 10. Shoppers are welcome to stop by the market between 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The market will run through October.
