A Real Dose of Winter

A snow storm could blanket the Twin Cities with up to four inches of snow Tuesday and Wednesday. Rain and sleet could make road conditions slick.

After months of unusually warm temperatures, Minnesotans will battle their first big bout of winter weather today. While the morning rush hour wasn’t a problem, the evening rush hour could be a different story as a mixed bag of precipitation covers the state.

A winter storm warning is in effect for the Twin Cites through Wednesday. Meteorologists say the strong storm could dump up to a foot of snow in southern and central Minnesota. The metro area is likely to see up to four inches of snow before the system changes over to sleet later tonight.

As the system heads east, drivers should keep an eye on road conditions. Sleet, rain and snow are predicted at various times throughout the storm before it wraps up on Wednesday.

After this storm blows through, Minnesotans will be in for another round on Friday. While this system looks weaker, it could add another two inches on top of what Tuesday brings. Temperatures will drop into the 20s and winds could hit 10-20 mph.
