Courage Center Merger with Sister Kenny Takes Effect Saturday

The organizations will be renamed the 'Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute.'

The Golden Valley-based Courage Center is set to complete its merger with Allina Health’s Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute on Saturday, Allina announced in a Thursday news release.

The renamed “Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute” will be a clinical service line of Allina Health that will provide “health care services, community-based services, innovation, research and public policy.”

The philanthropic arms of the organizations—the Courage Foundation and Sister Kenny Foundation—will be merged into a single foundation that will be named the Courage Kenny Foundation.

"We believe this new model can improve health outcomes, make it easier for people to get the right services for their needs and reduce the total cost of care by preventing complications," the release quoted Courage Center CEO Jan Malcolm, who will become interim president of the Courage Kenny Foundation and Allina Health’s vice president of public affairs after the merger.

Courage Center employees will become Allina Health employees.

New logos will begin to replace existing ones starting Saturday, but a full brand rollout will be phased in over the next 12 to 18 months. The organizations expect full integration to take 24 to 36 months.

The Courage Center was founded in 1928. Sister Kenny opened in 1942.
