Auto Repair Shop Seeks to Relocate in Golden Valley

The Alignment Guy would relocate from Bloomington to Golden Valley.

Jeff Forss, the Alignment Guy, is seeking a Conditional Use Permit from the city of Golden Valley to relocate his business from Bloomington to Golden Valley.

Forss would like to move his auto repair shop into an 1,800 square foot space at 6124 Olson Memorial Highway, an industrial zoned area of the city within the Expressway International Park complex. It would be located down Douglas Avenue from Perpich Center of the Arts area off Hwy 55.

Having an auto repair shop in that location is consistent with that industrial area.

The shop has no other employees, only Forss. It is an "under-car" repair shop specializing in wheel alignment and bearing, drive axles, tire and wheel, brake and related chassis repair work. No engine or fluid services offered.

Work volume has ranged from one to four cars a day and cars are usually classic sporty cars and modern vehicles.

Forss had his space in Bloomington since 2007. He established the business in 2002. He is moving because the building he's in is being sold and the buyer isn't renewing his lease.

Forss went before the Golden Valley Planning Commission at a July 8 meeting. The Planning Commission and city staff recommends that the Golden Valley City Council approve the Conditional Use Permit for Forss to relocate his business to the city.

The Council is set to decide on this at its Wednesday, Aug. 7 meeting in City Hall.
