A Second Walgreens is Coming to Golden Valley

The store is expected to open just in time for the holidays.

For years the only in Golden Valley has been the one located next to right off of MN-100. But a second Walgreens is expected to open in the next few weeks in the northwest corner of town.

"Progress on the building started in April," said Robert Elfinger, a media relations representative for Walgreens. "And we wanted to have it open before the holidays."

Despite another Walgreens located less than a two miles straight north on Winnetka, and a CVS store on the opposite corner, Elfinger said Walgreens found the location on the southeast corner of Medicine Lake Road and Winnetka Avenue to be a prime location.

"We look for traffic patterns, demographics and competition, and we want to build drug stores on the best corners in America," he said. "Based on that, we think this is very good for us and for Golden Valley."

Unlike the current Golden Valley Walgreens, this one will have a drive-through pharmacy window. Neither site is a 24-hour location.

Elfinger said the store will employ between 25 and 30 part-time and full-time employees and said they're still looking to fill some open spots. To apply, visit the company website.
