Library Program Helps All Ages 'Write Out Loud'

Passionate writers tap into their creativity with the help of a professional author.

Enthusiastic writers of all ages explored poetry in a writing workshop at the  on Tuesday evening. 

Professional freelance writer Dhana-Marie Branton led the hour-long session. She explained how to express thoughts by writing freely and speaking out loud.

It was the very first writing workshop Ken Rolf, a retired senior, has ever attended.

"I felt this was important for me because learning to communicate well is so important in life," he said.

Lauren Langham, 16, who has published poetry, came to the library to gain more insight and inspiration.

"This class intrigued me and I wanted to learn ways to balance my busy life and learn how to incorporate writing into my schedule," Lauren said.

The First Pages writing workshop series is part of a large initiative to help aspiring and current writers in the community, according to library officials. The project is made possible by the Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund and the Loft Literary Center.
