Julie Andrews Visits Golden Valley

The famous actress is talking arts education at Perpich during the noon hour. We'll have the story and pics on Golden Valley Patch.

Legendary performer Julie Andrews is meeting with high school students attending the in Golden Valley today.

"As a passionate advocate for arts education, the Academy Award winning actress chose to visit the Perpich Center because of its reputation for excellence and its mission to provide all Minnesota students the opportunity to develop their artistic and academic abilities," Kevyn Burger, Perpich communications director, said.

Julie Andrews will share a personal message about the value of learning in and through the arts and the relationship between creativity and achievement.

The Perpich Center will present her with a resolution to be passed by the Minnesota Legislature recognizing her lifelong commitment to arts education.

Along with her distinguished background in music, movies and theater, Dame Andrews is an award winning author. Over the course of 30 years, she has authored a collection of beloved children's books as well as penning her own memoir.

Her current children's book, "The Very Fairy Princess Takes the Stage," is co-authored with her daughter, Emma Walton Hamilton.

Julie Andrews will take the stage to answer questions from Arts High School students in the Black Box Theater at the Perpich Center.
