Fun, Free Family Events This Week in Golden Valley

Looking for a fun and free family-friendly event close to home this week?

There are two this week that include enjoying the great outdoors and getting cooled off in the heat.

The first event is 3 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at Lakeview Heights Park, for the fifth installment of Police and Fire in the Parks 2013.

What to expect? Law enforcement officials will spend time with the children from the neighborhood, talk, give safety lectures, serve ice cream and pizza, and have fun. On hot days, the firetruck becomes the source of a gigantic sprinkler to help the kids cool down.

The goal of Police and Fire in the Parks "is to create opportunities for police and firefighters to meet with Golden Valley residents in a casual setting so they get to know each other, develop trust, and build partnerships that ultimately enhance crime prevention and fire safety in the community."

The other free event is Water Day II 12:30-2:15 p.m. Friday, July 12, at Scheid Park
