Still, snowfall amounts should hit the three-inch to six-inch mark Golden Valley, making it one of this season's more prominent snowfalls.

The timing could also be a bear, with snow forecast to fall during Thursday night's drive home, straight through to Friday morning's commute into work.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch on Tuesday morning, noting that plowable snow is in the forecast for Golden Valley and Hennepin County. Forecasters say that Winter Storm "Q" will make its way out of the Pacific West and into the Rockies Tuesday, moving into the Upper Midwest Thursday and Friday.

Weather service experts say that “snowfall amounts exceeding six inches are appearing more likely” on Thursday. It would make it among the top snowfalls of the 2012-2013 winter season.

According to the winter storm watch, “a strong system will bring accumulating snow to the region.”

Snow will begin to fall over southern Minnesota on Thursday morning and will reach central Minnesota in the evening, continuing most of the day Friday.
