Update: Volunteers Needed For Maintenance Work, Planting Lilacs in Golden Valley

The maintenance work is May 25 while planting would be in September and go along Hwy 55/Olson Memorial Highway in Golden Valley.

Looking for an outdoor volunteer project for this weekend? How about setting the stage for some foliage to improve landscaping along Hwy 55 in Golden Valley?

You can join other volunteers from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 25, in the parking lot of Spirit of Hope United Methodist Church off Hwy 55 to be a part of a Community Roadside Landscaping Partnership Program.

The program teams up Golden Valley’s Envision Connection Project Bridge Builders with the city of Golden Valley and the Minnesota Department of Transportation to implement a vision of lilacs, shrubs, and flowers along the sides of Hwy 55 through Golden Valley.

Four years have brought citizen volunteers out each spring to plant lilacs in the right-of-way of Hwy 55. The vision of the Lilac Project is to continue until the expanse from Wirth Parkway to Hwy 169 is planted.

The sixth annual planting party is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Hway 55 South Frontage Road where there cul-de-sac at General Mills Nature Preserve stands.
