Updates On Regional Sanitary Sewer Force Main Project in Golden Valley

This week work continues under railroad tracks, at Hwy 55 and between Laurel and Glenwood avenues in Golden Valley.

Crews continue to work this week on tunnels under the Canadian Pacific Railroad tracks and Highway 55 and at the force main between Laurel Avenue and Glenwood Avenue in Golden Valley. The work is part of a Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES) regional sanitary sewer force main project.

With a solution in place for dealing with the poor soils, one tunneling crew will continue working on the Canadian Pacific Railroad tunnel and a second tunneling crew will begin working on the receiving pit north of Hwy 55.

Minger’s open cut crew will continue installing force main between Laurel Avenue and Glenwood Avenue. Once the workers reach Glenwood, they plan to move to the north side of the Canadian Pacific Railroad tunnel and continue the installation.

In order to install force main across Glenwood, the intersection will be closed just west of Xenia Ave over the July 27 weekend. Warning signs will be placed on site by the end of the week.

Last week the pipe laying crew continued to install force main heading north from Laurel Ave and has currently placed almost 1000 feet of pipe in the ground. The fence along Xenia Ave was taken down along with several trees in the area to allow crews to install pipe.

The trees and fence will be replaced upon completion of the project. Minger’s tunneling crew continued its work near the open space at the intersection of Turner’s Crossroad and Lilac Drive, with some minor delays due to poor soils.

The gas main in conflict with the jacking pit south of Hwy 55 has been offset and crews will be moving in to prepare for tunneling beneath Hwy 55.

Expect minor traffic control and roadway modifications when traveling through this corridor.

Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES) is installing a new 18-inch regional sanitary sewer force main in Golden Valley to help relieve sanitary sewer capacity concerns along the I-394 corridor. Most of the installation of the MCES 1-GV-461 Reliever Project along Xenia Avenue and Turner’s Crossroad will be completed during the 2013 summer construction season. Small portions of the project will need to be wrapped up in 2014.
