Sunday's Market In The Valley Will Be For The Whole Family

Special event will feature puppets, crafts and yes, fresh fruits and veggies.

This weekend, Market in the Valley will hold a special family day.

The farmers market runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at 7800 Golden Valley Road. It is in the parking lot north of City Hall underneath the water tower.

Family activities include the Golden Valley Park and Recreation Puppet Wagon, crafts, balloon animals, face painting, a sidewalk chalk art contest and live music.

The farmers market also will be collecting canned goods and donations for Golden Valley's People Responding In Social Ministry (PRISM). The nonprofit has been dealing with more clients and fewer donations at its food shelf, according to Diane Erickson, PRISM volunteer and resource director. In addition, PRISM has less money for transportation and housing assistance.

This week, produce in season at Market in the Valley includes blueberries, tomatoes, sweet corn, summer squash, cucumbers, beets, Chinese broccoli, radishes, kohlrabi, zucchini, herbs, lettuce, cabbage, mint, green beans, pea pods, potatoes, onions, bok choy, chives, broccoli and spinach.
