Resident Honored for Role in Citizen Advisory Committee

Resident Damon Struyk was honored for his contributions to the Theodore Wirth Park Citizen Advisory Committee.

For almost three years, Damon Struyk has spent time providing input to the city as a member of the Theodore Wirth Park Citizen Advisory Committee.

This week, Mayor Shep Harris recognized Struyk's dedication to keeping members of the community informed on issues that involve the park.

"He really earned his stripes being a representative on the Community Advisory Committee," Haris said of Struyk. "We thought this would be a good opportunity to thank him publicly and give him the honor that he's due."

Struyk remained humble during his acceptance of the award.

"I greatly appreciate it. But no thanks are necessary," Struyk said. "It's a labor of interest and love on my part."

According to Communications Manage Cheryl Weiler, the advisory committee  was formed to make recommendations for changes to Theodore With Park as part of the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board's capital improvement program. Members provide input on the park design, two-way communication between the project team and the community, and guidance on the final design recommendations.
