Regional Sewer Force Main Project Closes Xenia Avenue Sept. 14-15

This week crews with the Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES) regional sanitary sewer force main project will continue to work south of I-394 and north of Highway 55. Crews will mill and overlay the Golden Hills Drive/Xenia Avenue intersection, which will require closure of Xenia Avenue on Saturday, Sept 14, through Sunday, Sept. 15.

While the tunneling crew continues to push the 42-inch casing pipe in the I-394 south tunnel, the pipe crew is installing an air release manhole structure near the Hwy 55 North Frontage Rd where the new pipe was tied into the 42-inch force main. Crews are also replacing the sound wall off of Turner’s Crossroad (which was removed at the beginning of the summer for the Hwy 55 tunnel)  and planting trees along Turner’s Crossroad and Xenia Ave.

This upcoming weekend, crews will mill and overlay the Golden Hills Dr/Xenia Ave intersection, beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, through 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept 15. This will require a shutdown of Xenia Ave just north of Golden Hills Dr. A detour will route traffic around the area via Golden Hills Dr, Colorado Ave S, and Laurel Ave (see map). The rest of the intersection will be paved under flagging. Please be patient while traveling through this area as congestion and delays will occur due to the construction.

Expect minor traffic control and roadway modifications when traveling through this corridor.
