Readers Have Mixed Feelings on Golden Valley Apartment Plans

On Nov. 10, Patch asked readers what they thought about three new apartments that could be constructed in Golden Valley, pending City Council approval. A number of readers commented on the article, and a few shared concerns about the increase in potential rental space. 

The new apartments include The Tiburon Apartments, Colonnade Apartments, and, most recently, Three.Nine.Four.

Patch user Nicholas s said he would be happy to see new construction come to the community. "I think it is very important for golden valley to have more housing options," Nicholas wrote. "It is also important because the younger generation is less interested in home ownership, if this city is wanting to have a healthy and diverse mix of ages, it needs to have a draw for a growing market."

Reader Karen G. agreed with Nicholas, but cautioned city staff. "I agree new development is good for the city but please move forward carefully and thoughtfully. I ask the city to look at the early days of Brooklyn Park's planning and the consequences the city has faced starting in the 1980's and continues to worsen today," Karen wrote. "I believe there needs to be a careful, cautious balance of rent units to private homes."

Chris Hannaford wasn't too sure about the new projects. "More apartments means more transitory residents who are not invested in the community," Chris wrote. "These are three huge projects that could change the character of Golden Valley for the worse."
