Power Still Out for Some Golden Valley Residents

Most outages should end by Friday, says Xcel.

Following , hundreds of people remain without power in Golden Valley. With a little more than 5,000 without power in the West Metro area on Wednesday night, Xcel has been working around the clock to try and get power back to affected areas. Xcel Energy reported over 200 overhead poles were lost in to North Minneapolis. All remaining Golden Valley outages are between Wirth park and County Road 81.

Steve Rowlstead, spokesman for Xcel Energy reported that they hoped to get everything cleaned up by tonight.

“The biggest problem that we had was that we had to rebuild our entire system in a couple of days,” Rowlstead said. “We lost 200 overhead poles and each pole is a good 60-70 yards apart. We had to rebuild several miles of new power lines from the ground up.”

With more than four hundred people working on the problem, Xcel hopes to be done by tonight, but says they are reserving Friday to do residual work and trouble shoot any homes that may still be without power. Rowlstead said that with the whole system down in some areas, it’s hard to determine if a single house has sustained damage that would prevent the power from coming back on.

“We may have a customer here or there that still has an outage, but we aren’t aware until we make repairs to the larger area,” reassured Rowlstead.
