Update Nearby News: Sinkhole Closes Part of Bottineau Blvd, 42nd Avenue in Robbinsdale

If you were heading anywhere near Bottineau Boulevard and 42nd Avenue in Robbinsdale on Saturday you weren't going anywhere fast.

A water main broke near that intersection in Robbinsdale Saturday morning, which then caused a 50-feet wide sinkhole, according to Hennepin County.

Traffic has been rerouted around the area and County Road 81 is closed to Hwy 100. Also closed is 42nd Avenue between West Broadway and Lakeland Ave.

The water main owned by the Joint Water Commission, which is maintained by the cities of Crystal, Golden Valley and New Hope, runs through Robbinsdale to meet up with the water source in Minneapolis. Repairs and maintenance work is currently underway at the sinkhole

Today, crews will begin removing the failed 36 inch water pipeline to inspect and repair other utilities affected by the water main break on Tuesday. This Tuesday, repairs will be made to those utilities. A variety of safety measures and detours are in place, and repairs will be ongoing in the area. Weather and other factors permitting, the roadway should reopen to traffic late afternoon next Wednesday.
