Memorial Service Planned for Former Cooper Principal

On Saturday, Sept. 29, Cooper High School students and alum will honor former Cooper High School Principal Elmer Kemppainen.

The life of Nels Elmer Kemppainen, a long-time Robbinsdale Area Schools educator and former Robbinsdale Cooper High School principal, will be celebrated this Saturday in the Cooper High School Auditorium at 1:30 p.m.

Kemppainen was 87 years old when he passed away last month.

According to District 281's newsletter, during his 31-year career with Robbinsdale Area Schools, Kemppainen served as a coach, teacher and school administrator.

He retired in 1985 after 13 years as head principal of Cooper High School. The Cooper High School media center is named after Kemppainen. 

At the memorial, an alumni chorus will perform and Cooper High School students will speak. The event is open to the public.
