Laura Ingalls Wilder Birthday Celebration

Little House on the Prairie comes to the Golden Valley Library.

The Golden Valley Library was transformed Saturday into "Little House on the Prairie" to celebrate Laura Ingalls Wilder’s birthday. Mary Steinbicker, Youth Services librarian, helped create the pioneer celebration and experience to help children learn about Wilder.

Elementary-schoolers entered the library to the sound of a violinist performing Pa Ingalls' favorite tune, Pop goes the Weasel. The Hotfoot Stompers, a modern western square dance group, got the children and adults up and dancing until the end of the party.

“We home-school our daughter, Gracielinn, and used 'Little House on the Prairie' as part of our curriculum," said Carrie Hill, a parent who brought her daughter to the library Saturday. "She loved the books so much that our family took a trip to South Dakota to see the Ingalls homestead and continue learning about the Wilder family.”
