Hwy 169 Construction Between Golden Valley and Brooklyn Park Starts June 7

Weekend road closures and weeknight lane closures are planned for the area.

Motorists will encounter eight weeks of weekend and weeknight delays and detours on Highway 169 between Highway 55 and 77th Avenue as crews resurface the roadway.

Starting on Friday, June 7, southbound Hwy 169 between Hwy 55 in Golden Valley/Plymouth and 77th Avenue in Brooklyn Park/Maple Grove will close for four consecutive weekends. The lane closures will begin at 9 p.m. each Friday and continue through 5 a.m. the following Monday.

All weekend closures of southbound Hwy 169 will subside in July – weather permitting.  Starting on Friday, July 12, northbound Hwy 169 between Hwy 55 and 77th Avenue will close for four consecutive weekends. The lane closures will begin at 9 p.m. each Friday and continue through 5 a.m. the following Monday. All weekend closures of northbound Hwy 169 will subside in August – weather permitting.

All lanes and ramps will be open over the 4th of July holiday weekend. In addition, motorists will encounter various overnight weeknight ramp closures.
During weekend closures, motorists should use Interstates 94, 394, and 494 and Highway 100 as alternative routes.

Throughout the past 10 years, extensive repairs to the 7.5 mile stretch of the highway have prolonged the life of the road. Current cracks in the road, declining pavement ride quality indexes and drainage issues necessitate pavement reconstruction.

The $12.2 million project will improve the existing and future mobility of the road and provide a smoother road surface. The project also includes installing new guardrails, and improving bus lanes and pedestrian accessibility. Also starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, the right lane of Hwy 100 southbound will be closed between Exit 9B: Duluth Street/Golden Valley Road in Golden Valley and Exit 11: 36th Avenue North in Crystal. Road maintenance operations will last until about 1:30 p.m.
