Heat Indices Today and Wednesday Expected To Be Above 105

National Weather Service warns residents to stay inside and drink plenty of fluids.

When the nighttime temperature nears 80, you know the day is going to be blistering.

Monday night the low temperature was forecast at 78, but the heat index was 80 to 85, according to the National Weather Service. Today's high is forecast to be approximately 95. But the heat index is expected to be more than 105. Yes, you read that right.

The high heat index is thanks to a combination of high heat and high humidity. On Monday, humidity was 88 percent, the NWS said.

An excessive heat warning is in effect through 9 p.m. Wednesday. That day is expected to look a lot like today, with very high temperatures and heat indices.

In light of the difficult conditions, the NWS suggests residents drink plenty of fluids; stay in air conditioning and out of the sun; and check on relatives, neighbors and pets.

Outdoor programs and events have been canceled throughout the area because of the heat. So it's best to check before you head out to an activity.

On Monday, Minneapolis Parks and Recreation released a list of places that are open and activities that are canceled because of the weather.
