Golden Valley residents can enjoy two family-friendly events, on Friday and Sunday.

It's time to plan another weekend, Golden Valley residents. This week your children can have a blast for next to nothing at the annual . And this week's will feature puppets, crafts for kids and live music.

  • Why Go: Start the weekend early with the kids, playing carnival games, going on hay rides, enjoying puppet shows and more.

  • Why Go: The weekly Market in the Valley will not only feature the amazing local produce but also a kids’ craft tent, sidewalk chalk contest, puppet wagon shows and live music.
  • Price: Free general admission, but consider taking along a canned food item to donate to PRISM.

 

Southwest Minneapolis

  • Where: 
  • Why Go: Live music featuring nationally acclaimed melodic modern jazz.
  • Price: Free

 

  • When: From 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday
  • Where: 
  • Why Go: Join the community in shopping for local produce, enjoying freshly prepared foods, and perhaps even a bout of live music. This week swing by and Capstone Gallery (4325 Nicollet Avenue) to scope out the Art Next Door.
  • Price: Free

 

St. Louis Park

 

  • When: From 6 to 9 p.m. Friday
  • Where: Aquila Park (3100 Xylon Ave. S.)
  • Why Go: Bring a food to share, meet your neighbors and play games.
  • Price: Free

 

  • When: At 9:30 p.m. Friday
  • Where: 
  • Why Go: Kick off the weekend with live country rock music. Carters Chord will open for the national act, and Sterns County 17 will wrap up the night.
  • Price: $10 tickets will be available at the door

 

Hopkins

 

  • When: At 7:30 p.m. Friday
  • Where: 
  • Why Go: Learn all about the life of Shakespeare from the very man himself.
  • Price: $14

 

  • When: From 7 to 10 p.m. Friday
  • Where: 
  • Why Go: Enjoy live music from Molly’s Worst Enemy, Somewhere Violet, and The Prodigal Sons.

Minnetonka

 

  • When: From 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday 
  • Where: 
  • Why Go: See if your dog has what it takes for the September fall and winter fashion show, Doggies on the Runway.
  • Price: Free

 

  • Kids' Day
  • When: From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday
  • Where: 
  • Why Go: Kids of all ages will have a grand time at the 1st Annual Duck Derby, participating in contests and more.
  • Price: Free, but consider taking a food item to donate to the ICA Foodshelf

 

Lake Minnetonka

 

  • When: At 9 a.m. Saturday
  • Where: Long Lake Fire Department #1 (340 Willow Drive N, Long Lake)
  • Why Go: Follow a fire truck around the 5k course, while celebrating community and good health.
  • Price: $30 on race day

 

  • When: From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday
  • Where: 
  • Why Go: Tour six private gardens, each hiding a secret gnome. On this self-guided tour, find the gnomes, who will reveal magical clues and help support the numerous orphans in Russia.
  • Price: $35 on the day of the tour; one child under 12 is admitted free with the purchase of an adult ticket

 

Edina

 

  • When: From 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday
  • Where: Start at the tour’s featured garden (7013 Comanche Court, Edina)
  • Why Go: The tour will feature 5 gardens and yards where Edina residents have demonstrated sustainability.
  • Price: $15

 

  • When: At 7 p.m. Sunday
  • Where: Centennial Lakes Park
  • Why Go: Now’s your chance to see the 113-year-old band in action.
  • Price: Free

 

 

Richfield

 

  • When: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; 12 to 5 p.m. Sundays 
  • Where: 
  • Why Go: Head over to the Wood Lake Museum to scope out the new Interactive Bird Exhibit, featuring sounds, pictures, history and more.
  • Price: Free

 

  • When: From 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday
  • Where:  at
  • Why Go: Swing by the Farmer’s Market to meet Richfield Mayor, Debbie Goettel and then shop the market for local produce.

Plymouth

 

 

  • When: At 9:30 p.m. Friday
  • Where: 
  • Why Go: This singer/songwriter plays Mexican/Americana music combination, as well as country and reggae. Trejo is noted as one of the best guitarists in the Twin Cities.

  • Where: 
  • Why Go: Hoigaard’s will have a variety of kayaks and canoes for you to test out on the water.
