City to Host "Sewerfest"

The City of Golden Valley will host an event for residents to learn more about the city's I/I reduction program.

Golden Valley was one of the first cities in Twin Cities metro area to aggressively address the problem of inflow and infiltration (I/I), or excessive clear water flows into the regional wastewater system.

To update citizens on the results of its I/I reduction program, the City is hosting “Sewerfest: A Report On The State Of Golden Valley’s Wastewater Infrastructure.”

The event is set for Tuesday, Oct. 30, from 4:30–7 p.m. at Golden Valley's City Hall.

At Sewerfest, citizens will be able to view displays about I/I and how it affects Golden Valley and the region. They’ll also learn what the City of Golden Valley and Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES) are doing to the public sanitary sewer system to reduce I/I and how other cities are addressing the issue. In addition, there will be information about how many properties in Golden Valley are compliant, private property plumbing corrections that can be implemented to reduce I/I, opportunities for homeowners to address I/I issues, and the City's program to help residents finance I/I repair costs through a special assessment.
