Bassett Creek Trail Plans Moving Forward

The public can hear updates and contribute to discussions at a June 14 open house.

Users of the regional trail systems might want to drop into an open house about the planning process for the proposed Bassett Creek Regional Trail.

The meeting is 4 to 7 p.m. June 14 at the Crystal City Hall Community Room, 4141 Douglas Dr. N.

The Three Rivers Park District is hosting the open house to give information and listen to public input about the master planning process for the trail. When completed, the Bassett Creek Regional Trail will connect the Three Rivers Park District’s regional trail system and the Minneapolis Grand Rounds system.

With Theodore Wirth Park at one end and French Regional Park in Plymouth at the other, the paved multi-use trail will cover 6.6 miles through Golden Valley, Crystal, New Hope, Crystal and Plymouth. Park officials see the connection as a convenient route to parks, businesses, schools, and community gathering places.

Two major trail components are already in place. In 2003, a pedestrian/trail bridge spanned Highway 100 between Vale Crest Roas and Dawnview Terrace on the Crystal-Golden Valley border. In 2009, a pedestrian/trail bridge was built across Highway 169.

Guided by the Bassett Creek Regional Trail Task Force, in coordination with local and regional agencies, the master planning process began in August 2010 and is expected to be completed later this year.
